Students are working on writing word chemical equations and balancing them. Parents, we are testing the week we get back from Thanksgiving. This test builds on skills they should have learned over the past three chapters. Look on Powerschool at the quiz they took today. If they didn’t do well, they have not learned these skills. The following are skills they MUST know in order to pass the upcoming test.
1) Knowledge of element symbols 1-36, Au, Ag, Pb, Hg, and Sb
2) Identify diatomic molecules
3) Able to identify ionic compounds from covalent molecules
4) Know how to write and name ionic compounds and covalent molecules
5) Balance chemical equations

Students worked on writing and balancing chemical equations. There is no homework.

Students worked on naming covalent molecules and writing their formulas. They began learning how to balance chemical equations.

Students continued working on balancing chemical equations. There will be a quiz on Friday over balancing equations.

Students began working on writing chemical formulas today based upon oxidation charges. 4th and 5th period have to complete the worksheet for homework.

Today in class students began working on balancing chemical equations. We will continue to practice this tomorrow. There will be a quiz this week over what we are able to cover on Monday and Tuesday. As it stands right now, I’ll be out Wednesday and Thursday.

Students have begun Chp 13 on chemical equations. There will be no test until at least next Friday. See P.S. for an explanation of why I’ve been out this week.

I have been out this week with the exception of Tuesday. He’s having to deal with medical issues with his wife. She will be having surgery next week and hopefully I’ll only have to miss one more day. Students are beginning Chp 21 and are reading about chemical reactions, how to balance them, etc. I would suggest that in my absence to take advantage of online tutorials on how to balance chemical equations. This might help speed up the process of comprehension. There will be no test until at least next Friday.

Physical Science to test over Chp 20 while regular science will test over Chp 12. Both classes have chapter reviews and labs due tomorrow. Study guides are optional.

5th period will take the element symbol quiz tomorrow. All classes will test on Friday over Chp 12. Homework for 5th period is to complete questions for section 3 in workbook and book.
